Team Manager’s Responsibilities

Each team must designate one team manager, who may be the coach or assistant coach, for the season or before the start of each game.

The team manager is responsible for ensuring that all registration forms and team documents are accurate and complete, including each participant’s full legal name.

Teams should have a non-playing adult coach or assistant coach present on the bench throughout each game.

Only the designated coach or assistant coach may communicate with game officials on behalf of the team. The team manager may respectfully ask for clarification regarding the interpretation of a rule but may not dispute or repeatedly question an official’s judgment call.

All communication with officials must remain respectful and professional. A coach or assistant coach who speaks to an official in a rude, threatening, or disrespectful manner may be assessed a technical foul and may face additional disciplinary action.

The team manager is also responsible for the conduct of the team’s players, coaches, bench personnel, and spectators. Inappropriate conduct by anyone associated with the team may result in a technical foul, removal from the facility, suspension, or other league penalties.

When a player receives a technical foul or is ejected, the team manager must provide the player’s full name upon request. The game will not resume until the requested information is provided.

A coach or assistant coach who refuses to disclose the identity of a player who received a technical foul or was ejected may be assessed a technical foul and suspended from future games until the information is provided.

Official Scorebook and Scorekeeper

Before each game, every player’s first and last name and jersey number must be entered into the official scorebook using the roster information submitted during registration.

A player who arrives after the game has started may participate without penalty, provided that the player is listed on the team’s approved roster.

Late-arriving players may not enter the game until their identity and roster eligibility have been verified by the scorekeeper or another authorized league representative.

The running scorebook maintained at the scorer’s table is the official record of the game score, team fouls, individual fouls, and other recorded game information.

Teams may maintain their own scorebook and statistics for personal use; however, the official scorebook maintained at the scorer’s table will control if a disagreement occurs.

The team manager must notify an official immediately after discovering a possible scoring, foul-count, or timekeeping error.

When a team requests that play be stopped to correct a possible error and no error is found, the team may be charged with a timeout.

The official scorekeeper will record only the statistics authorized by the league, which may include:

• Field goals made;

• Three-point field goals made;

• Free throws made; and

• Free throws attempted.

Teams may independently track any additional individual or team statistics.

Game Officials

Officials for the Do Right League Adult Basketball League are contracted through an independent officiating organization and are not employees of the Do Right League.

Officials are expected to treat all players, coaches, spectators, and league representatives professionally and respectfully while enforcing the rules and policies contained in the league manual.

The Do Right League may schedule two or three officials for each game, as determined appropriate by the league director.

When the scheduled number of officials is unavailable, a game may be played with one or two officials. The game will remain an official league game.

Once a game has begun, it will be considered an official game and will not be replayed solely because fewer officials were present than originally scheduled.

League Authority

The Do Right League reserves the right to interpret, revise, add, remove, or modify any league rule or policy when league leadership determines that a change is necessary to promote safety, fairness, good sportsmanship, orderly competition, or the best interests of the league.
