Adult Basketball Format Game Play Rules
League Format
The 2023 adult basketball season will be broken into four sections: regular season, playoffs, 3pt shoot-out, and All-star game:
Regular Season: Men’s team will play TBA regular-season games. Women will play TBA regular-season games
Playoffs: Playoffs will begin the week following the regular season. TDRL Playoff games will be posted on the league website and Facebook pages.
TDRL WILL NOT INSTRUCT A TEAM COACH WHEN THEY ARE TO PUT A PLAYER IN A GAME
(THAT IS ILLEGAL GAMEPLAY). TDRL WILL NOT BE INVOLVED AS IN TELLING COACHES WHEN TO FULL-COURT PRESS DURING A GAME
Equipment
Jerseys: Teams must have jerseys of the same color and permanent numbers for each player in every game (including the first game).
Numbers must be permanent and at least six inches high
Tape on numbers will not be permitted
Legible numbers with a permanent marker will be permitted
Tee shirts are acceptable
Non-Jersey Penalty: Any player who does not have a jersey that meets the above criteria will be assessed a technical foul. This rule will be enforced, including the first week of play
Players & Rosters
All teams must submit a completed roster before their first game.
Rosters shall have a minimum of five players and a maximum of nineteen players
Players may be added to your roster until February 12th, 2023
Each player on your roster must be at least 19 years of age unless a waiver has been granted by the league
This policy involves liability issues and can only be waived by the League Director. Officials may not waive this clause unless receiving notice from the League Director.
All games played without a roster will be forfeited
Teams must have at least four players on the court to play
Any team that drops to three players will forfeit.
*** If a team only has 5-7 players and one of the players is hurt or injured during the season, that team will be allowed to replace that player as long as they show proof that the player is actually injured. TDRL Director will determine the decision
If a team is scheduled to play and does not show it is an automatic forfeit
Game Time
Games will begin promptly at the scheduled start time
If a team only has four players present at game time, they must play with four
If a team does not have four players current at 5 minutes past the scheduled
game time, they will forfeit.
Games will consist of two 16-minute halves. With five minutes between halves
The clock will continue to run time except:
An injury occurs that requires stoppage of the game for longer than a normal stoppage (this is up to the officials’ judgment)
A time-out is called
During free throws
Foul on the floor, clock restarted by the signal of the official
If teams are tied at the end of the first overtime, they shall play in the overtime period for 5 minutes
Officials may correct a mistake by scorekeepers
If a team requests a scoreboard correction and finds no mistake, that team will be charged with a time-out.
Officials may stop the clock anytime a play is delayed unnecessarily or under unusual circumstances. Technical fouls will be assessed against any players or team that intentionally delay gameplay
Putting the ball in play
Jump balls will only be used to begin the game and to begin all overtime periods.
All other jump ball situations (including halftime) will be determined by alternating possessions
The officials shall manage the ball after every whistle
Time Outs
Each team will be allowed THREE one-minute time-outs per game and three thirty-second time-outs game
If overtime is played, each team shall be awarded one time-out per overtime period, and allowed to use any time-out left from regular gameplay
Dunking
Under no circumstances will dunking, grabbing the rim, or slapping the backboard be allowed; it will be accessed as a technical foul
Fouls
Any participant who is assessed five personal fouls will be removed from the game (fouled out)
A technical foul is considered a personal foul
For example, a player who receives four personal fouls and one technical has fouled out.
A player shooting a three-point shot when fouled shall receive three free throws (only when a three-point line is available). If a player that is fouled makes the 3pt shot, one free throw will be granted.
Free Throws
Players may enter the lane once the ball leaves the shooter’s hand (on the release).
Goal Tending
Goaltending is automatic 2pts for the other team even if the referee does not call it. (if the ball is descending into the goal and the player hits the and it goes out is defined as goaltending.

Grievances: If a Team or Player has a grievance, that team manager (coach) or player my submit the issue and it will be handled and resolved within 2 business days.
